BGU U15 Boys Travel to Europe On April 13th, the Blue-Gray United U15 Boys team, coached by Paul Marco, met with Gov. Underwood before beginning their European tour. Gov. Underwood declared them Ambassodors of the State of West Virgina. The U15s then left on April 15th for a 10-day trip in Italy and France. Their first few days were spent in Milan, Italy where the team immediately was introduced to European football fever when they attended the InterMilan and Juventus game. After three days in Milan, which included a "friendly" match with an Italian club team, they traveled on to Paris. Besides playing three friendlies with Parisian club teams, they took time off from soccer to see the sights. On Friday, April 28th, the U15s traveled to Le Portel, France, where they competed in the Tournoi International Du Portel. The tournament hosted teams from France, England, Wales, Belgium and, of course, the USA. The U15s competed against Glamorgan Select from Wales, US Boulogne CO from France and the home town team, Le Portel. Following the tournament, they returned to Paris for their trip home. Meanwhile, back in West Virginia, the Blue-Gray U16, U17, and U18 teams trained hard for the Adidas Cup in Charlotte, NC that was held over Easter Weekend. Having stepped up to a higher level of out of state competition, the U17s at the Ice Breaker Tournament and the U16s at the Jefferson Cup, our teams are finding they can compete at a more challenging level and look to continued improvement and success throughout the season. '99 Season Recap
Even when we weren't bringing home trophies, we were giving high level teams something to think about. At the Jefferson Cup (Richmond, VA) our U18 Boys team won all their games against top teams except one - to the eventual tournament champion. The U17 Boys team had a similar experience a few weeks later at the Johnson City Tournament, losing in a heated battle to Javonon-Juventus 2-1. The 1999 season also saw the first Blue-Gray United Women's team. They added to the trophy count with two finalist trophies, one at the East-West Shootout (Huntington, WV) and one in the WV Snickers Cup. New Web Site Look We have changed the way things look on the Blue-Gray United web site. Hopefully, it will be easier to navigate and to keep our information up to date. We welcome any and all suggestions. Please email us at info@bluegrayunited.freeservers.com if you have any ideas or we need to make a correction. Thanks for your support! |
The results from '99 Season surveys are now posted for both Players' and Parents' surveys.
